  1. I think three most golden rules of marketing is , knowing your customer , deliver what you promise, and marketing plans are good. I pick these three rules because these three rules are essential in marketing. by knowing your customer you will know what will help you to plan your marketing plans . A marketer must deliver the product exactly as what the company said or shown because by doing that customer will trust our company and that will lead to an increase of loyal customer and there is a chance that the customer who trust the company will promote the product to the other person. As a marketer you have to plan your strategy before you market your product and that strategy is called The Marketing Mix , by knowing and implementing your plan . the chance of your market plan to succeed will increase because a good plan will lead to a good result

  2. The golden ways of marketing, I guess is to Give it a Chance. Why? Because you need to be brave. Because if you don’t even have the courage to give something a chance, you wont start it at all. And we do know that business itself is risky. There are a lot of chance to fail. But also, there are a lot of profits there if you success. In business, you may fall, and you will actually. But if you have the ability to get up and see the opportunities, you will success. But of course, you need to have the courage to do so. And the other important ability to achieve success in business, is to know your customer. You need to know your target, know what to sell, and know how to attract them. And to increase your revenues is also important. But after all, it is courage, will and dreams to be succeed in marketing.

  3. After reading all the rules, I pick 3 rules I find the most golden. These are my favorite rules and the reasons why I choose them.
number 4: Know What You’re Aiming At. I think this rule is very essential yet crucial, because in every single thing you do, you need to know what you’re aiming at. This rule is very important in marketing.
number 6: Get To Know Your Customers. In economics & business, we are demanded to get to know our customers so we’ll know what they demand, what they want, what they need, how to attract them with our products, the perfect price for them, etc.
number 40: Give It A Chance. Making decisions in marketing are risky but an entrepreneur or a marketer are meant to be risk takers. But of course, we have to take risks and give chances based on our knowledge or experience about business and marketing.

  4. Last meeting, we play this game in the class and if I am not mistaken, I got 30-something for the score. It is in the middle of the lowest and the highest score. This game is remembering me to my Introduction to Business Class. We discussed Marketing and Marketing Mixed at the last meeting.

The winner was my friend who has the lowest score. At first, I surprised. But then, I realized that they had different opinion. They had something different from others opinion. They are different!! And it is a positive one!

For me, the Golden Rules of Marketing are Be Different, See and Be Seen, Change is Your Friend, Always Have a Deadline, and of course knowing your customers.
Firstly, we have to see about the market, see first, knowing our customers and our market. After we see the market, we know what is happening and what can make the market more fun or easier for everyday life. We have to be different to catch people eyes, so that change is our friend. Dare to change. If it is for innovation or for a good reason, why not? A change will make us different. This is one of a good strategy in business. By being different with any good change, we will be seen by the customers. Finally, always have a deadline to know the progress is also the key and you will be a success marketer.

  5. After reading all of those golden rules, I picked 3 rules which I think the best rule and can be expanded into other rules. Those rules are rule number 34, 24, and 4. Below I will explain why I choose those rules.
Marketing is Art: It is true that marketing is art. Sometimes it doesn’t match with the theory that you get inside the class. In this case, to be success in marketing, you need to be creative making promotion that haven’t invented before and makes people interested in it
Be critical: Be critical is important because with critical thinking, you can know about what kind of service or goods that needed inside the society where the company lives. This critical thinking determines what kind of strategies that will work properly in this situation
Know what you are aiming: It is important because when you know what you are aiming, you have a goal and destination what is the main point of the activity inside the company. With that goal, this goal will determine to which way a company will grow and whether it is growing in the right way or not.

  6. Firstly, know what you’re aiming at, or more basically who has the money to buy the goods and services that you offer and how do you get them to spend it?
Secondly, marketing is art. Why should they buy from you, rather than anyone else?. And finally, involve them and they will understand. How to you get the message to the market about your business and the products and services you offer?

I assumed those things are referring to advertising strategies. In my opinion, advertising strategies is meant to remind customers of your brand and the products and services you offer. Most of the ads you see on television, big banner, and etc fall into this category : Direct response. I'm not sure if it's true but there are lots of advantage of it. They are attractive, measureable, accountable and they give you immediate feedback on their effectiveness. It may take weeks or even months before the prospect decides to talk seriously to you about your products and services. I guess many businesses are doing those things but the best and most successful thing is keep innovating

  7. I agree with most of the rule, but I still can not figure out rule 1 that say rules ada meant to be broken.
I thought that every marketing people will realize that they should make their own rule and their own decision. When we tend to agree with rule 1 it means that we should think twice, first we define our decision and second we make the opposite meaning from the decision so it will result in rule that meant to be broken.
But overall I absolutely agree with all the rule. First of all we need to know the most fundamental rule that should be understood by every marketing people, we should be understand what is our decision.
After that we need to arrange plan in order to reach our decision, planning is very important, we can not doing marketing by spontaneity. We need to prevent bad things that might be happen in future.
To make good plan I think we should understand the consumer behaviors, what treat they like most, and what treat they dislike most. We also need to be different but familiar, because consumer tend to choose what they are familiar with. And the last one is we need to always adjust with the environment. Just like rule number 26 that say change is your friend, this is means that we should adapt with the consumer we face. As what I mention before that we need to know consumer behavior and this behavior always change all the time, they always want something fresh. So if we want to stay we need to provide something fresh.

  8. Marketing is activitiy that a business do to satisfy the costumer. They have to design different strategy to make their business better than the other. To realize that a business should have a golden rules of marketing like the article said. Get to know your customer is one of the most important thing a business should do because they would know what they will face off and what their target market are. They also can design the product based on what consumer wants.

A business also have to know what they aiming at. If they don’t know the goals, the business operation could lead to downfall. The company also can’t stand for a long time period. Marketing also have to be a creative in designing the product so they can atract the consumer to buy theirs. Another influence is advertising because nowadays, news are spread not only from newspapper but from tv, radio, and brochure. The more interesting advertising they make the more customer they will get. So the company at least have a good marketers to run the marketing business in their company.

  9. I agree with almost all of those marketing rules. I think it is good that Adrian post this article. Because we are still new in economic and we have to know the basic of marketing. Adrian wrote those rules with simple way and it makes us easy to understand. For example, rule number 12 “Be Different” is advise us to be a unique entrepreneur or make a unique business or plan of business as a entrepreneur. That is true that we have to be different because if we’re follow too much another competitors, we would loss our chance. But, if we try to be unique that means different with another competitors, we would have an added value that another competitors don’t have. And it could make us become a more successful entrepreneur compared to another. I think I can’t give the example one by one but I have to say I agree with 90% of those rules.

  10. 3 golden ways to be success in marketing are, first, “be different”. Why? If we sell goods the way that everyone does, it won’t be unique anymore. Our goods won’t be remembered. So, we have to make something creative, which does never exist before.
Second, “know what you’re aiming at”. Before we sell something to the societies, we have to plan our target, therefore we can make the right advertisement to sell our goods. If we don’t make advertisement based on our target, people won’t understand the meaning of our advertisement. The massage on our advertisement won’t be delivered clearly.
Third, “get to know your customers”. After we determined our target, we have to know our customer behavior. For example teenagers, we have to know the most update trend on their surroundings and their interest. Twitter, facebook, and other social media are the best way to advertise our product, because those social media are their life. They spend most of their life there.

  11. Rules are meant to be broken.
Well, yes some rules can be an obstacle sometimes that makes us breaks the rules. But not all rules are meant to be broken. Some rules actually help us to be on the right track.
Plan a Little So You Can Do a Lot More.
Planning is one of the most important things I guess. We need a plan to prevent mistakes. Always have a back up plan! Our first plan or what we think might happen is not always what will really happen.
    Know What You're Aiming At.
I think it also means that we need to set our target. To know what we want is important to guide us to take substantial steps and also to know the risk from what we want.
Pick the Problem You Want to Solve.
I don’t think this is right. What I mean is that we should solve all problems that we have. Maybe we should pick the major problem first, but not what problem we want to solve.
    Be Different.
We need to be creative. Provide things that are better than the other. To be unique or different is charming. -Calista-

  12. This one is a really good topic, The Golden Rules of Marketing. Well, I think the top three golden rules are the rules no. 1, 12, and 36. Basic idea of marketing is how you can promote your product so other people can know that your product exists. Rule no 1, rules are meant to be broken. I couldn’t agree more than this rule. We need spread our wings, rules is just like a guideline. To do marketing we can’t just simply follow every rules that is available, we need to do something beyond that. Sometimes to get good sales we need to be a little bit tricky to our competitors, for someone who work in advertisement maybe they done this a lot. Rule no. 12; be different. We also need to be different because we need to attract a lot of people who want to buy our products. If we just promote our products normally with no passion or something different that we used to, people will not be attracted because is just a boring stuff. And the last one rule no 36, make them laugh. Marketing is about meeting people. We meet them and get to know them then we show our products. Make them laugh is one of trick so we can get to know them easily. Tell them jokes and make them laugh will make the situation not boring. This can make them get more attracted to our products easily. So, I think these are the three rules are the most golden rules in marketing.

  13. Hi, it was so good to be back to the blog. Yup the golden ways of marketing. In my opinion be different is my first choice, in business I think we must thinking out of the box from what people often thinking about. That’s why in my opinion be different is so important for marketing golden ways.
Second, Be critical. We know there’s a quote “There’s no second chance”. From that quote I know that I should be critical in my marketing business. From deep of my heart I will optimize every good chance in my life.
Last, Always have a next step. We should have a step after creating a step because of we don’t want to trapped in our last step. It just like a ladder that never ending or if a tunnel like you see a light but you never goes out from that tunnel because the tunnel has never ending stop.

  14. In my opinion, the 3 golden rules of marketing are:
Marketing is an art. Well marketing is not an easy thing to do. Marketing needs its own skills and competention to be done. Doing marketing is one of the most important things in running a business. So i agree that marketing is an art because it has its own skills in doing it. If we think marketing is an art, the marketers will be called the artists. So they have freedom in doing marketing.
Make them laugh. Doing marketing is not always a serious thing. It can be funny too. People will respect the marketers who make them laugh. Don't be too serious because the world needs laughter. Beside giving informations and persuade people, we also have to attract them with little jokes. People tend to pay more attention if we are not too serious. Being Serious is good, but being too serious is not good.
    Be different
Well being different is one of the important rules in marketing. For me, the one that always catches my attention is the thing that is different from the others. So to catch the attention of everyone, i think we should be different. Being different is not always bad. It shows that we are not afraid of having different things from others.

  15. After I read the Golden Rules of Marketing, I think will choose rule number 6, 12, and 40 as the most golden.

“Rule 6 : Get to know your customers.” I think this one is a really important thing in marketing. People need to know what their customers want before they run the business. If they know what the customers need, they will be able to choose what product they should produce to get a lot of profits and high sales. That’s why the marketing division in every company will do research regarding this matter before they finally decide to produce the goods or services. I think when we can understand our customers, they will be pleased to buy our products.

“Rule 12 : Be different” this is not about setting up a high price so we can be different from others. It means that we need to do innovation in order to keep the business alive. Creativity is very needed in the business area. We have to keep making some innovations so we can attract the customers. They will think that our products are more unique and exclusive.

“Rule 40 : Give it a chance” People often feel afraid to take the risks when it comes to business. If they can’t stop thinking negatively, many opportunities will be wasted. So when you find a way, just give it a chance. Be brave and consistent. People need to try first although maybe it will not end up successfully.

  16. These rules are golden, they are really true and useful. I agree with most of them. But, if I have to pick three of them to show which ones are the most golden, I will go for the rules number 4, 12, and 20.
First is “Know What You’re Aiming At”. To know what or who is our market targets is something essential in marketing. We have to know it, because we will advertise or promote our products to them. It will be better if we already have informations about them, like their likes, dislikes, habits, etc.
Then, I pick “Be Different”. Being different from another will be very useful in marketing. People will see us as something different from the common products. So they will be interested in using or maybe just seeing our products. So, being anti-mainstream is needed in marketing.
The last one, I choose” See and Be Seen”. You, as a marketer, must see what’s going on or what’s happening in your markets. You are needed to know the chance to market your products in the market, so keep your eye on! And after you do observations, you will know what you have to do. Yes, you have to be seen to easily market your products.

  17. I do agree with this 40 ways of marketing. A good marketing means that you have to knows your customers well like what they need, the range of your customer, the capability to buy your product so you can make a product that have a good quality and the price is affordable to customer, after that you have to build a good communication between you and your customers, as a company person that build a good relationships to the customers. And then you have to be creative than any other company marketing persons in another company. And as a good marketing you have to send the messages to your customers as clear as possible in order to get a more customers. And if you make a mistake don’t be afraid admit that you’re wrong and you have to apologize in order to build a trust between you and the customers.

  18. Marketing took an important part of your business. You should find the right way to offer your product to the customer. If you want to get a big profit, you would do the golden rules of marketing. I would choose number six, twenty, and twenty five. Number six said get to know your customers. You should to know about your customer target. You made an analysis about their need, class, taste, or life style. If your product appropriated with their taste, they would buy your product. Number twenty said see and be seen. See means, you should see the opportunity in the market. Opportunity happened in the certain situation. Opportunity offered a big profit to your company. Be seen means, you should make your product familiar to the customer. How to make it be seen? An advertisement could increase the sale. Number twenty five said, always have a next step. You should make a new target and a plan in your business.

    ReplyDelete
  19. For me, all of the rules are right. But the most “golden” of it all is Rule 12, Be Different. Why? Even in the class when played the game, the winner is the one who got the lowest score, the one who is the most different. And also if we sell goods the way that everyone does, it won’t be unique anymore. Our goods won’t be remembered. So, we have to make something creative, which does never exist before. For me the one that really catches my attention is the one that is different than anyone else. The second rule is Marketing is an art. Well marketing is not an easy thing to do. Marketing needs its own skills and competetion to be done. Doing marketing is one of the most important things in running a business. So i agree that marketing is an art because it has its own skills in doing it. If we think marketing is an art, the marketers will be called the artists. So they have freedom in doing marketing.

  20. I agree with almost all of this rules, but I am totally agree with rule 4, 33, and 37. Rule 4: “know what you aiming at” to start up a business you have to segment some of your costumer, goal, etc. if you run up a business without goal you will be fail and you will never understand how far is the growth of your business, doing business without target is impossible. Rule 33: “marketing plans are good” after we set up our goals, we have to set up some plans to get our goals, plans help us to get our goals, without plans our step will be not efficient. Rule 37: “always have a deadline” after you set up your goal and plans, the last thing you should remember is to always have a deadline, deadline will make you to do your task as soon as possible, so you can reach your goal within your time target.

  21. After looking at the 40 golden rule of marketing, I think all of them are good for marketing. Each of them has its own positive and negative. Overall I think these 3 strategies are the best based on my opinion.
    Be different
People are tired of the deception in the marketing world. They are bored with the same type of advertising and promotion, and the result is usually unsatisfactory. To attract more customers, we need to be different. Different in the way of marketing is the way we have to do. We have to be creative and unique, so that the customer will get happy and in the end they will buy our products.
    Always have a next step
We have to be one step ahead compared to our competitors. In marketing, we compete with our competitors in gaining customers. Once we get the attention of customers, we also must have a further strategy to make customers want to buy our products or goods.
Change the word not the ideas
Sometimes it is difficult to acquire customers, we need to think about it. Our main goal remains the same, it is to sell products to the customers, but we change our ways to tell the intention explicitly.

  22. As a Business IUP student, this post is quite interesting to me. It taught me variety of golden rules in marketing. I do not think there’s the best and worst one of it. It depends on what strategy do we want to operate our business and which perspective we use to see it. We can say, most of the rules are obvious and common. The previous session we had, more than half of students in class were feeling determined to choose which one we think will be the most theoretic one referring to business lessons, logic or probably sounds cooler. Only a number of students decided to being creative in picking certain golden rules.
Marketing is an art. So I think I agree that we shall dare to be different than others on holding the principles even perhaps it might sounds lame such as “ Just Say No To Jargon ” and “ Make Them Laugh ”. Because there is no correct answer in these uncountable choice of strategies.

  23. To be honest, I don't really intended in being a marketing though my mother used to be one. The main reason is because I'm not good at persuading people. However, looking at the rules of a golden marketing, I think the following are the most golden:
-Rule 6 Get to Know Your Customers.
-Rule 37 Always Have a Deadline
-Rule 39 Deliver What You Promise

It’s important to know your customers. You have to gain their trust first in order to have a long-term customers. In the other hand, you can build up links and connections towards your customers. Another good point is that they can introduce your business or service to other people.
To have a deadline is important in everything, not only in business area. Time is money and it is important to not waste the time. Deadline makes people work more effective and efficient by finishing your own work on time.
In the end, delivering what you promise is what the customers want. You shouldn’t lie at first if you can’t deliver what you promise.
To summarize, gaining the trust of the customers are what’s all about. Without customers, you are nothing but a dead business.

    ReplyDelete
  24. The three most golden rules are Rule 6 Get to Know Your Customers, Rule 12 Be Different, and Rule 39 Deliver What You Promise. I will tell you why I choose these rules. Firstly, Rule 6 Get to Know Your Customers. You have to get to know your customers for attracting them to know about your business. For example, if you want to look for teenager customers, you have to attract them by making a twitter account for your business, and updating about information of your business on twitter, because almost all teenagers have twitter accounts. Secondly, Rule 12 Be Different. You have to make your business different from any other business. You have to make your business as unique as possible to be recognized by people. And last but not least, Rule 39 Deliver What You Promise. You have to make sure that promises that you make are all delivered. So, customers will trust you, and will not be disappointed. I think the missing 'Golden Rule' according to me is always smiling and be friendly. Customers really love nice people.

  25. Being a marketing is not that easy to be done, so, from the 40 option, I choose Get to Know Your Customer, Customers Are People Too, and Be Different as 3 of them.

Get to know your costumer, this is the most important. Cause we need to know, what the costumers wants, needs, and so on.

Costumer are people too, this is so true. Many business just think of their own advantages, without thinking that costumer also need the best quality of service, and goods. So business is not only about money and being selfish. But also about making people happy of what provided by the business.

Be different. Being monotone in the market probably won’t safe you. You have to provide differebt services or goods, in order to survive in a business world. Get to know what the costumers wants, and deliver them in innovative ways. With this, I bet you will become a successful businessman.

  26. Marketing is a must in doing business. By marketing we can reach and gain more customer and automatically we will reach more profit. I think, one of good rule is to know your customer, not just knowing but understanding. By implementing that rule, we can know what is need from the market, so that we can provide better service. The second good rule is be consistent. Being consistent is hard to all. Usualluy when someone start a business, he or she will commit to make and provide the best service, and yes they could make it, but is it still lasting trough many years? I dont think so. It is hard to be consistent, and when a customer feel comfort with us, we should be consistent. The last one is deliver your promise. It is really risky if you make a promis in business, for example like if you make an advertisement with a 70% discount and in the reality there is no discount or just 20% discount? What would happen? People will take out their trust from you. The main point in Mrketing is how we could build a trust on people's mind.

  27. I think the above article is not only for marketing, but for a sales and sales management also considered. I wish I were still doing business at the time and found this article, maybe I’d get a big profit and I’d have a lot of customers. I had an online boutique (I know you also understand this business) with photos of the outfit as promotion material and uploaded to social media accounts or set as avatar a year ago. More detail, this is a Online Shopping ( Olshop ) business which usually peddle its merchandise via twitter , facebook or blackberry messenger group . My first impression of the business was quite easy and would make a huge profit. Apparently, it all requires a very detailed strategy and to be honest, I had to close the business and lost all customer contacts. It is Late enough for me to know this brilliant article. However, there are couples of the ways that I want to comment on
Rule 9 See the Forest and the Trees: What’s that mean? We have to look at market share and market conditions in our surroundings also?
Rule 15: Just Say No to the Jargon : Why this should not to be done ? If avoided, why commercials still use jargon and eventually they succeed as well?
Be Consistent Rule 18 and Rule 26 Change is Your Friend: It is said that we have to be consistent, but in rule 26, change is our friend. Where is the consistency?
Maybe that’s all I want to share, ask and suspect. Everyone has their way of doing business and could have been sourced from the 40 (interesting) ways.

  28. In the weeks before, we have played this game in class. The 40 golden rules in my opinion, was one of the most interesting games we've played (apart from the "idiom" poker game), with an amusingly surprising ending.

At the beginning of this game we were given instructions to pick the most amazing and original ideas that came our way, with a hint that after we picked them, we were to give a speech in front of customers that wanted original ideas, ideas that likely never occurred to them.

In the end my group ended up being one of the high scorers, I remember being second. But that was before Adrian announced the winning structure. It turned out this game was much like golf (In the terms of points) the group with the lowest score, won.

So apparently my group was still second, yeah ... second to last. Thanks for reading, that was one, of many unforgettable experiences I had in "EWS 2013".

    ReplyDelete
  29. Those are all amazing rules of marketing. For me, the three most golden rules are rules number 9, 30, and 36.

Rule 9 See the Forest and the Trees. As a marketer, we need to see both the big and small pictures. We have to focus to the little goals each and every day and to pay attention to the detail of each customer. But we also need to see the big picture. For example we need to know which type of society do we want to go after. Then we can reach our goal faster because we work toward the goal with attention to the little details.

Rule 30 A Launch is a Process, Not an Event. For me this means to do things first, even if it's not perfect yet. Like it stated, it's a process not an event. So we need to do trial and error to make it perfect. Or if I like to call it, Version 0.5 is better than 1.0!

Rule 36 Make Them Laugh. It's important to make them laugh so they can be more relaxed. It also means that we have to be their friends first; make them trust us as a friend. Then they will be more open and it will give a big advantage for us.

There's one more rule that I think is also very important: Exceed Customer's Expectation. Every customer has expectation, as small as it is, the expectation is still there. And we need to do more of what they'd expected us to do. Either by our goods and services or just simply have more sympathy. Then this way, they will be awed and unconsciously trust us more.

  30. In my opinion, the three golden rules of marketing that we need to pay attention more are :

Rule 6 Get to Know Your Customers

Yes, when we’re doing a business we have to get to know who is our customers. They’re the one who’ll buy and use our products so we need to know what they need and try to fulfill the customer needs.

    Rule 12 Be Different

To be different is the most important key in Business. Try to deliver the products in a unique way, be different with others, try to be the one that will most likely “interesting” enough to attract the customers. The customers usually like something new. As the company try to innovate the products, they also need to advertise the products smartly so the products will attract the interest of the customers.

Rule 39 Deliver What You Promise

We must not lie to the customers when doing a business. If we can’t deliver about what we promised then we should not promised to them about giving a full satisfaction or offering the best products about them if we can’t fulfill our promise.

  31. From all of the 40 golden marketing rules that are on the list, if I have to choose 3 of the most important rules in the marketing is get to know your customer, marketing plans are good, and always have a deadline. Why I choose get to know your customer as one of the golden marketing rules is because marketing is the science of attracting customers to buy or purchase our goods, automatically we have to know more about our customer, we have to know what kind of products that the customers wanted. The second golden marketing rules is always have a marketing pans, because if we have plans that means we know what will we achieve and we know how to achieve the goal. The third marketing golden rules that I choose is always have a deadline. Because if we have a dead line, it will be more easier for us to manage our time, it will be more structured. And we won’t be late of all the things that we have to do.

  32. The three most golden rules of marketing for me are Rule 4 “know what you’re aiming at”, Rule 8 “customers are people too”, and Rule 25 “always have a next step”. For Rule 4, I think it’s the most important rule for marketing. To do something, we must know what is our purpose or our aim. Same in marketing, the marketers should know what they’re aiming at. Then they could do everything to reach their aim. Rule 8, customers are people too. They’re not aliens or ghost. They might be wealth, but if they don’t buy marketer’s product, maybe they don’t need the product. Also, if customers complain about your products with inconvenience way, please forgive them. But don’t forget that marketers also are people too. Finally Rule 25, always have a next step. It’s also important because if you don’t have a next step or a plan, you’ll be failed. Marketers should plan their strategy step by step, even if their plan is not going well, they should know what step they should do.
