Thoughts About the Future: Advertising

ADS TO GO EVERYWHERE

Could ads to go everywhere be the very next new thing? I was reading how Google has found a way to put ads on iPhones and other mobile devices through a new acquisition called AdMob. According to a 2009 article, Google purchased AdMob for $750 million from its founder Omar Hamoui, 32, who created the business four years previously while in grad school at the University of Pennsylvania ’s Wharton School.

The system is considered a breakthrough because Hamoui found a way to get through the controls that wireless carriers impose on the content that customers can see on their phones. These controls have been termed “walled gardens” since they were protecting the content, and the carriers were like Godfathers with protected turf deciding who could enter.

But Hamoui ’s AdMob system meant that anyone could get through, and after Apple introduced the iPhone and provided a platform where users could chose their own applications, over 100,000 developers created new apps for it. Apple was able to charge only a few dollars or even give the programs away because of the revenue from AdMob ’s ad network.

The program has proved so successful that since its creation, AdMob, which now has 150 employees, has provided almost 140 billion ads on mobile Web sites and apps. Its revenue for 2009 was $45 to $60 million, and it doubled its income this year after tripling it in the previous year. No wonder Google wanted to buy it for $750 million.

The way AdMob works is that it lets programmers decide where they want their ads to show up while their apps run on a phone. As a result, advertisers, who may be app makers or mass marketers, can decide how to target their ads. They can, for example, advertise to anyone with an iPhone or choose a particular demographic. In turn, this targeting means more clicks per ad. For instance, Hamoui reports that users commonly click ads five to eight times more often on a mobile phone than when they see ads on a desktop computer.

AdMob has competitors that also put ads on phones, such as Jumptap, Mojiva, and AOL, but currently AdMob appears to be the market leader and is likely to stay there with Google ’s purchase. After all, Google seems to have a good sense for picking one of the very next new things. In 2006, it purchased the Internet ’s top video channel YouTube for $1.76 billion. And in 2008, it acquired DoubleClick, an advertising reporting system that helps Web publishers, marketers, and ad agencies target ads and assess them for the best performance.

What this means is that you are likely to see more and more ads wherever you are. Use an app on your cell phone, and see an ad. Take a picture and share it with others, and see an ad. Get stranded in your car, and see an ad as you call for help and report where you are. Let others know about this cool new song you just heard, and see an ad as the song plays. In other words, you can expect to be increasingly surrounded by ads wherever you are. It ’s great that all these apps will make life easier and more interesting—and to help make that fi nancially appealing for the provider, you ’ll see an ad.

Thus, wherever you go, you ’ll be seeing more and more ads everywhere—all part of the sea of ads that contribute to the branding and promotion of everything in modern life.

  1. Now advertisement is getting better and take a huge step forward because of technologies if in the old days we have to advertise our products through newspaper or advertisement board in the street now we can use internet to advertise our product now there are some online shop who will provide you to advertise your product such as kaskus, took bagus, and blibli. So now we can use that to advertise the product through the online shop for example if you want to advertise your old car because you need money or you want to replace it with the new one you can advertise it through tokobagus.com and you will get a fast response from your buyer and even you don’t have to meet them directly just transfer it and you just have to delivered it through tiki or fedex to the customers and because of the technologies nowadays we have a better life.

  2. What this article describes is already common nowadays. Mobile advertisement is getting more and more popular as the mobile (in form of smartphones, iPhones etc.) itself is gaining increasingly in popularity. Consumers nowadays are swamped with messages since the amount of advertisement is steadily increasing in general. “What this means is that you are likely to see more and more ads wherever you are.” This overexposure however can lead to the result that consumers get more and more annoyed of the ads and simply close them without even looking at them. At least this is what I do. Of course the brand and the product might still be perceived by your subconscious mind so that the next time you purchase a product, it is more likely that you chose the brand of which you have seen an ad before – only because it seems more familiar to you. Due to this, the effectiveness of advertisement is very difficult to measure for companies. In fact, only around 50% of all commercials work which means that advertisement has to be targeted more precisely. In the online world this is relatively easy, as companies have more data and information about the users. In the “offline-world” however, where banners, placards and product offers are advertised to a broad public, it is more difficult to adapt an ad to an individual.

An innovative approach that would also fit in the section “Thought About the Future” concerns placard advertisement. The U.S. company IMRSV developed a new technology for face recognition. The camera “Cara” can recognize a face, the gender and the rough age of a person in up to eight meter distance. It also detects how long and how often the person looks into and next to the camera. This is a perfect technology in order to optimize placard advertisement. In the future it could be possible that placard ads can be personalized to the extent that the ad changes depending on who stands in front of it. For example: If a young woman is looking at the poster, it shows High Heels while older men would probably see elegant leather shoes and kids would see sneakers. Of course such technology has to be discussed critically as it may offer the possibility to save personal data. But nevertheless I think it’s a very interesting approach that may help marketers to target their customers more individually.

For the ones that are interested in this technology, I found a video that explains more about it:

  3. I don’t have a problem with small ads on the screen in free applications or programs for mobile phones or computers. When the developers get money from ads they can distribute their app for free to everyone who wants to use it, and usually they give you the option to pay for a premium version without ads if you want to. This business model seems to be working quite well, and I hope it lasts.

I do have a problem with ads, however, if I use for example Youtube to see a video a friend of mine uploaded and I have to watch a commercial to get through to his video. When the ads are actively hindering you from your desired task, and more importantly are not wanted by the content creator, they cross a line in my opinion.

I also have to say that the reason phone ads are so much more “successful” than computer ads has to be that they are so much easier to open by mistake. At least my fat thumb has caused this to happen more than once.

  4. I think this is the innovative revolution in the advertisement. But, right now, there are too many ads in the smart phone that it began to annoyed the consumer. Well, at least that’s what I felt. Whenever I want to open my application or download them, I must close many ads before I finally can get it. What happen is, when people become too annoyed with this stuff, they started to ignore it. Closing the ads without even looking at it is something most of people will do nowadays. So, I agree that it is an innovative way in ads but I don’t see it as the most effective ways to attract the consumer. I think that the company needs to be aware of this problem. I can see the reason why this way is taken by the company. People are become more addicted to their phones lately so, yeah, putting the ads at the smart phones is some way to make the people notice the ads, but the company should think about how much ads will they add to it because, if it too much, people will find it as an annoying stuff.

  5. Like what Erik said, I'm a little bit disturbed by some commercial videos in Youtube. I usually want to watch the video directly but the ads seem like a 3-years-old kid who forces his/her mom to give some milk! They often hinder me to watch the main video. Some of the ads are actually not worth to be watched, although some other ads are eye-catching. And then, I often disturbed by a vulgar, unethical ads in some blogs or websites (I never found that kind of ad in your blog so far, Sir.). What if the web (that contains such an unethical ad) is opened by an innocent child who doesn’t know anything about that? Children have a big curiosity, so moreover, what if the children open the ad(s)? I couldn’t imagine if the ads will turn the children to act negatively. Putting ads in web is innovative, but it has to be regulated well so the consumers or web users won’t be driven into a negative behavior. In conclusion, it’s all back to ourselves. As a web and gadget consumer, we have to be wise and smart in facing new technologies.

  6. Advertising agencies used to be indispensable when it came to advising clients where best to place ads. Now, a host of technology firms, like Adobe, Salesforce and IBM, offer analytical services and software to help advertisers achieve the best bang for each buck. Big internet firms like Google and Facebook can provide a wealth of data about their vast audiences: this is encouraging many advertisers to deal with them directly to book slots, rather than going through a traditional ad agency’s media-buying division.
Online advertising is getting speedier and smarter. Many online ads are now bought and sold automatically with “real-time bidding”. In days of old, ad executives would ring round various publishers to find good rates, and then consult the client before placing the ads. Now, advertisers can specify which sort of audience they want to reach and how much they want to pay, and use ad “exchanges” to buy space on websites that fit their requirements, all in a fraction of a second. I believe that online advertising is the most prospective advertising available in the future.

  7. Yes it's true that we can easily found an advertisement everywhere on the internet or any kind of apps. And if you are a business man who makes a lot of ads, it’s a good thing and gives you a lot of benefits when you can easily put your ads everywhere you want. For me, its okay with all advertisement showed up in front of me every time I open my apps, as long as they can be removed and didn’t hinder any buttons in the apps. When the ads show up and you have to wait for it to be closed, that’s the annoying part of ads for me. The developers have a good strategy, they provide the premium which is ads free and the free one which is a lot of ads waiting to unleashed. So if you have any trouble with rapid ads, you can buy the premium app, but if you don’t have the money, it's your choice then to see the ads coming.

  8. I don’t know how people react to bunch of advertisements, but I found myself not looking into most of them, although I have to admit I might have taken looks to either the interesting ones or the ones that appear repeatedly in a day. Moreover, we have to also consider that not only the advertisement companies grow fast, ad-blockers are also improving, trying to block those persistent and annoying ads for us, despite we might have to spend a few dollars on them. There are pros and cons about advertisements, some ads are useful because we might have a use for them, some others are also good because they contain a little bit of useful information, making us want to dig up for more. However, many ads contain harmful spywares or maybe viruses which try to get personal information out of us without our permission. Most of the ads are also useless for us and only take up more quotas and thus increase the loading time when opening a web page.

  9. In globalization era, everything will be easier to do including make an ads especially on internet. That is why internet is the best choice to people choose to promotion their product to consumer. Moreover, we know that nowadays many website that providing facility only for ads. I mean that the website is just consist for ads, in Indonesia for example tokobagus.com or in international is ebay. Most of that kind of website is free. So many people prefer to make an ads in there because there are also many visitors who visit these webs for looking for everything that they need.
In other concept, we also know that ads usually is inserted on the web page that we access such as youtube, yahoo even the social media like twitter or facebook. Maybe, the website organizer thinks that the ads will seen with many people as many user visit that website. For the popular website, I think someone have to pay to make an ads on it.
On the other hand, the appearing of an ads in the web page is little bit annoying for me. Because whenever i would like to watch a video on youtube, there will be 20 seconds of ads first, before we go through to the video. This make me lazy ti see the ads even want to skip it if i can. I am pretty sure it is also happened to others.

  10. As advertising technology become more advance and easy especially in mobile devices makes many business advertise their product and service thorugh mobile advertisement , because its cheap , easy to set up , and can reach wide range of potential consumer. Advertising nowadays became more massive that some people found it annoying and disturbing , because of that many company also create anti-ads application or some application offer non ads version of their application instead of making more advance mobile advertising apps. Although advertising nowadays are more accurate , not all of it are accurate and if it reach wrong target , the person will get annoyed. In the future advertising should be more accurate and not too massive and repetitive or a program that only allow advertising that match our needs , hobby or interest so that people will be less annoyed even though the ads keeps poping out, at least they can found what they are interested in

  11. I think it is quite mind blowing to see how much advertising method had evolved over the past decade. I mean, 10 years ago, who would ever imagine, paying someone just to mention his or her company name on their facebook status. Personally I’m quite familiar with Google’s admob and adsense as I have used them a few times. I think it is a very innovative agent to get advertises so that it can reach out to the group of people you want to approach.
Indeed, just like what Catherine mentioned, some people may get ‘a little bit disturbed by some commercial videos (on) Youtube’. In a long run people would also finds it annoying to see advertisement whenever they go. As such consumer are often offered to, for example, upgrade their iPhone application to premium so as to block advertisement. These applications often can be downloaded for free because they have got sponsors from advertising company, as such when they are not advertising the product anymore, customers would have to pay for the application.

  12. I think Google is very smart at looking at the things that will be a hit in the future. It is a right decision to purchase the AdMob Company, because I think it is a very profitable company.
Even though sometimes the ads on iPhone applications are very annoying, but I find it also useful. It is often that the ads are about discounts airline tickets or retailer fashion web. The most annoying ads are through text messages. Especially when we are waiting for a text from someone important. “Hamoui reports that users commonly click ads five to eight times more often on a mobile phone than when they see ads on a desktop computer.” I think this is because we often touch the ads accidently than on a desktop computer where we have to click on something.
“What this means is that you are likely to see more and more ads wherever you are.” I agree with this, we can always see ads everywhere, mostly on free apps. These ads can give so many profits to the apps owner. Not only because the ads they placed in to the application but also the apps maker made a paid version of their application where there is no ads anymore and I think that it is very profitable.

  13. This article is quite interesting, especially as a student majoring in International Marketing. “What this means is that you are likely to see more and more ads wherever you are.“ I think we are already heavily experiencing these ad’s“ in a lot of applications, which even starts to get annoying in my opinion. If marketers decide to even increase the frequency of the ads, a lot of complaints will be filed. Maybe we will even see a new and more efficient way in “app advertising”. “Hamoui reports that users commonly click ads five to eight times more often on a mobile phone than when they see ads on a desktop computer.“ This number might also be caused because of the display size. When an add pops up in an app, almost the whole display is covered. Sometimes I even click the ad accidently. On a desktop computer display, ads only take up limited space most of the time.

  14. In business world, I think marketing communication is one of the viral departments in the company. Without good marketers or marketing plan, no matter how good is the product, no one will be interested to get it and good relationship between companies is needed. With the advancement of technology especially in communication, marketing the product to the customer is become easier. AdMob is really helpful to advertise business and I think as a customer, I can see and know many business easily and can see their advertisement easily.
‘Wherever you go, you’ll be seeing more and more ads everywhere.’ As a customer, when I read the last statement I think that it is horrible to see many ads which every time we do something, they will appear. I hate to see ads when I read blog, news, or play video in the YouTube. I know with this kind of marketing, many people can see it but sometimes it so annoying.

  15. I find this is very interesting article, because there are 2 benefits that for customer and marketing people. First for customers they will feel so comfortable that they are can easily know about the growth of technology by having the advertisement on their phone. Second for marketing people that they won't find any difficulties to post their advertisement on internet, moreover they not suppose to pay in a large amount of money to advert their goods and services.
I see that selling and buying system in this late years tend to active in online system moreover this idea supported by the increasing of selling gadget like iPad, sony, samsung tab and many more. In this era it is very easy to get internet access, like we can find wifi in so many cafe in Jogjakarta even a place that called burjo in parang tritis street have wifi access. For your information burjo is a very small restaurant with low price. I think it is true that when a person go somewhere this person always bring his/her own gadget so as what I say before that people will easy to read the advertisement every where.

  16. There’s no doubt that advertisement is the best way to promote product. Advertisement itself is having some advantages for both producers and consumers. No wonder that people make many improvements in advertising. Advertisement in smartphone is really smart improvement since people are addicted to their smart phone. People will more often “accidently” open the ads in their smartphone than in their computer. I don’t really like advertisement in some of application in my phone, but since I use free application, I won’t complain. But, I have to admit that I really hate advertisement in YouTube. I have to watch some advertisements before watch the video that I want. That makes me annoyed.
I think the last statement is a little bit scares me. “Wherever you go, you ’ll be seeing more and more ads everywhere”. It seems like advertisement will always follow me. That’s bad for me as consumers.
But, of course advertisement is the best tool for producers to use in introducing their products.

  17. Mobile advertisements have two sides: it offers more value to the customer as these ads are for products and services that the user is maybe really interested in. The user gets more informed about new products that he might want to buy and is happy to be informed about. On the other side, the main big disadvantage is of course the flooding of advertisements which disturbs the user. Of course, the user could refuse to install apps but what is a smartphone else for? The only other choice is to select only those apps which have a limited amount of ads.
This is to some extent what I observe with TVs. The period of advertisements keeps getting longer and people just use the break to go to the toilet and do some other stuff instead of watching it. The result is much money spent for nothing. So it should be in the self-interest of all the app-providers to restrict the amount of ads by themselves.

  18. One of the chapters in my business class called IT role in business is a suitable topic that could be related with this topic, which is talking about how we set our product in market by promoting it through mass media. Long ago, people advertised their product through newspaper, which can cost a lot of paper and also reducing the population of trees which can affect to the existence of some animals and any other bad sides. But now, people could just put their products in photos, upload them in the social media, and then they sit in a rocky chair and wait for the responses of the buyer. Now the question is what is a social media? In my own opinion, it is a mean of transferring information to people which can become their own interest. This is the advance part of the advertising that most people are looking for. By using this kind of advertisement, most business matter, especially marketing division, can be done in a more convenient and efficient way.

  19. In my opinion, advertising nowadays is having a big breakthrough in either technology and method. Advertising is having a change in technology such as; the change in media, from newspaper to news in webs like yahoo; from letters to emails; from flyers to big flat screen in public. Advertising also having a change in method such as; the way companies giving information about their products, they rarely tell salesman to go to each houses and tell people about their product. They instead send letters/emails to each house or person so the receivers will know about information of the products personally.
The change in advertising has been giving a big breakthrough for companies about how they giving information about their products. The efficiency is obvious in the way they used to inform customers, people in the past need to wait for information to be published on newspaper or magazines then customer can contact the companies to order or buy the goods. The change in technology and method has made everything become so much easier for customers. But the change in technology for advertising have negative side, like a lot of spam/junkmail to people. Useless emails and letters usually sent to people who don’t need it, this kind of junkmails bother a lot of people.
So, I think advertising should have some boundaries for their way of sending letters or emails.

  20. Nowadays advertising your brand or product to the people is easy. You just can rent a space in the newspaper, magazine, internet, social medias,or even billboards. But lately I found advertising in Internet is quite disturbing. Specially when I wanted to download file. I click a download link and a random ad page wildly appears in my screen, showing 18+ pics which is not appropriate for the underages. I thought my file is currently downloading, but when I knew I clicked at the ad link instead of the download link it really grinds my gears. Sometimes it also contains with virus that could mess up our pc or laptop. That is why we have to be careful when browsing the internet, specially when you download something. But in my opinion, online advertising is not very effective. Honestly I would ignore the advert and just focus on things I want to see in the internet.

  21. Well actually I hate some ways people try to advertise their advertisements for example when I tried to download mp3 they put their ads there so I cannot easily download my file. But yeah I agree with comments above me, these days is really easy to advertise your advertisements. Just open kaskus.co.id, or blibli.com, tokobagus.com, and many more website that provides service to advertise whatever you want to advertise. And those website are also do not require any cash to pay. I do not even know what is the profit by making those kind of websites. But those websites are really helpful and also trusted online shop. People are just require to transfer their money by bank or ATM then the seller will send it by TIKI or JNE. But not all online shop website are trusted, it would be better if you just trust tokobagus, blibli, and kaskus because those websites are very popular and trusted by many people in Indonesia.

  22. For long time ago, we have seen many advertising. They used to put their advertisement on newspaper, brochure, and billboard, because every day, people always read a newspaper and looking advertising on billboard if they go outside house. They advertise about their product such as drink, food, automotive, and other stuff to make the consumer know about thei problem. But now technology has involved in many things especially in advertising. In the article, Google has found a way to put ads on iPhones and other mobile devices through a new acquisition called AdMob. This a very interesting way because many people using cellphone to communicate with others, especially using iPhone.

AdMob is not the only advertising company, they have competitors such as Jumptap, Mojiva, and AOL. Because AdMob supported by Google, such a big comany, AdMob become a leader among other company. The negative side of advertising onlineis, whatever you want to do, the first thing you see is an ads, that is a bit disturb us for sure. So, advertising company should put the ads wisely

  23. Advertising is become more massive and more creative nowadays. There are lots of banner, billboard, pamphlet, brochure, until advertisements in the television, radio, and internet.
I agree with Oza’s opinion that I only see the attracting advertisement and neglect some of the unattractive one, and sometimes advertisement becomes spamming in the e-mail world.

By the way, It is really common to see the three dimensions advertisements in the internet and television. They can move and they are attractive.

There are lots of advertisements in the road In Times Square, New York City and also in Shibuya, Japan, using television. It is really amazing and catching my eyes.

However, seeing the television advertisement in the road is not a common thing for people who live in Indonesia especially in Yogyakarta.
But today, perhaps Yogyakarta wants to develop their advertisement by imitating Times Square or Shibuya.
People can see the advertisement using television in the road, as we can see on the Galeria’s front roof, and the front side of Telkom’s. The advertisements today are not only a banner which is only 2 dimensions, but they are three dimensions because there are the televisions. Even I have ever seen the car with the special television to advertise something.

About the future advertisement, there must be a more awesome advertisement, maybe we can talk with the screen and directly get the goods they sell.

  24. What I found about advertisement now is bit disturbing, like if you open some application in your smartphone this ad will come up. If you are in the middle of doing something really important, pop out ad is really disturbing for me. Nowadays more and more people start to prefer advertisement in virtual world like in the internet rather than just in newspaper. Take a look at any famous blog or site than people often seen, I’m very sure that have advertisement on it. From company that selling daily goods to online shop selling shirt with trousers must be have an advertisement or even a single line of massage showing that they product or what they can offer to the people. It is lot more easier looking for café with Wi-Fi and then open the internet rather than buy a newspaper, with internet we can search more information. This fact maybe makes more and more companies start to gives extra attention

  25. This new kind of mobile advertisement is getting popular, and more developer use this kind because it is cheaper (or maybe free), it has larger distribution, and its targeting system would attract the user more to click the ads. More user click the advertisement, more revenue the developer get, so the developer can keep their program free--that's why most freeware use this kind of ads--or cheap.
But nowadays the developers (of applications and most free sites) using this system incorrectly. They put ads everywhere, and most of them are hidden ads. Some people used ads as fake "Download" button and hid the real one. It is really disturbs me when I want to download something and I must choose one of five buttons to download a file, which four of them are fake! These kind of ads are literally abusing my eyes. These developers need to find new system that do not disturbs the users but still give them revenue.

  26. 4. There are many ways to approach more customers, but finding the most effective and easiest way doesn’t easy. But, internet marketing or online marketing has offered many chances to make every products easily marketed. The way of people advertise something has changed along with the advance of technology development. Nowdays, online advertising is viewed as the most excellent marketing method. We already knew through e- marketing we can reach our targeted consumers and thousand of people at once. Because, every time and every where people couldn’t take their eyes off gadgets, since everyone seems addicted to the sophisticated offered. Most important, internet provides unprecented opportunities for sharing information and we can overcome barriers of distance, after that we can sell many products without must be setting up local outlet in every country. It also more convenience when doing the business, we don’t have to care about the store opening hour, then people around the world can purchase any products at anytime. Beside that, it spends less cost than marketing the products through physical advertisement.

  27. The advertisement takes an important part in the selling rate of a product. The company uses some different ways to attract the consumer to buy their product. Nowadays, mobile advertisement is a very common method to increase the selling. Mobile advertisement has a lot of advantages than the conventional advertisement. In fact, mobile advertisement makes the selling process more efficient and easy. However, in the future the company will need more than just a mobile advertisement. They must find the new media and the revolutionary ways to develop their market. I think they can use hologram technology to make 3D advertisement. The hologram will represent the product and it will give a real effect about the size, the color, or the characteristic of the commodity. If the customer likes it, they only need to touch the hologram and pay it by the internet banking or scan the credit card. So, all kinds of the advertisement is possible in the next generation.

  28. Seeing advertisements passed by or come up on the screen while opening websites, using free mobile applications and programs somehow are so irritating for me. It disturbs my focus on the thing I am doing. Sometimes, the apps are too much and confusing us, the consumers. For example, when I want to download a song or program, suddenly the ads are appeared with various kind of fluorescent colors. Moreover some of the ads were showing a vulgar and unethical advertisements. I often a bit worry if my little cousins playing internet and get see that kind of stuffs.
If we open a popular video on YouTube, we would usually have to wait for couple seconds for the advertisements. Like what Catherine said, some of them are actually not worth to watched. I know it is great that more and more innovation bring advantage for people to seeking money. However, the publications of ads should be restricted more to eliminate those that potentially bring negative impact to morality

  29. So Google has put advertisement in all their applications. No wonder there are advertisement everywhere. For advertisement it is a good thing. They can market their products better and could target larger market. As the article said the advertisement can be based on demographic users, which means each application can be categorized into different users based on their age. With that advertisers will have clearer view of their potential consumers. Thus make advertisement specifically for that market.
However from the consumer point of view, those advertisements can be very annoying. Since they just pop up anytime it wants out of nowhere. They applications developer has foreseen this problem. So they only put the advertisement in free apps, if you want to make the advertisement disappear forever you have to buy the apps, quite smart isn’t it? However there are some hackers that made applications to ban the advertisements. Hence the free apps are free from all advertisement.

  30. I like how this article actually brought up one of the most noticable changes in the internet since the late 2010, which is the quite successful implementation of internet advertisements. It is true that web-related companies has been thriving in making many innovations for clients to promote on the internet, the examples being ad banners, YouTube advertisements, PopUp, and of course, this new mobile advertisements.
In my opinion, this could be very beneficial to google, because it could open many more advertising spaces for their clients, thus making the old internet ad methods unpopular. However, by common sense, no smartphone user won't be annoyed by the increasing appearance of cluttered ads in their touchscreens. Moreover, this could make manufacturers use cheap distribution trick by selling 'ad-mob free' gadgets at a higher prize, which was done by Gizmondo.

  32. I read the whole article two times and I understand nothing. But we all know that ads are pain in the neck. I downloaded a free app for my phone and once I operated the app I got an ad then I clicked the ‘x’ sign, few more minutes another ad appeared. I got so frustrated I erased the app. Even I am sure, for the people who work at ad company, let’s say, AdMob, it’d be a drag too if they see their add all over their smart phone and internet.
One time I opened Wikipedia then there is this message popped out about how Wikipedia wanted to stay to be non-profit web or something and if I want it to stay that way please donate any amount of dollar and I did. I love Wikipedia without ads, thank you very much. Let’s just see for how long this is going to last until we see those extremely infuriating rectangles on Wikipedia.

  33. Honestly I'm a bit annoyed with digital advertisements placed on websites, because when I usually open YouTube or Facebook I tend to accidentally clicked on it. In the future, I really want people to make advertisements more Eco-friendly, they don't have to place in on papers and spread them all over the streets, because it can make a huge impact towards the planet, by cutting trees and wasting papers.

I really want to see video advertisements on the streets, or maybe on TV, made uniquely and more mind blowing. I've seen on a website like 9gag.com types of ads placed on the outside part of a bus, and simple art on billboards on the streets. Although some may think that these will be costly, at least people who pass through feel curious about it. People won't bother looking at ads which are using brief words and capital letters, not unique and boring.Plus, ads should be placed on strategic areas, and shown on primary times if it's on TV (but not repeatedly).

Advertising is a very essential act in selling products, but it will be no use if we put attractive designs on it, when the quality of the product is questioned by the buyers. As we know top brands like Prada, Gucci, and Burberry don't place their ads on billboards and newspapers throughout the country, but only on certain fashion magazines. They're keep improving on the quality of the product, and still receive big bucks rather than any other brands. Because with this strategy also, buyers would think that these brands are exclusive and would raise their self-esteem by buying it.

  34. I think advertisement is really important. A company without advertisement cannot survive as their income mostly made because of advertisement. I have no problem with advertisement that always pop-up in our mobile phones or in the computers. Well maybe sometimes an excessive pop-up advertisement is very irritating overall it’s not a big problem.

As for the system, I hope it’ll last. Because nowadays, technology is increasing fast and we’re barely realize it. Almost every person in this planet has a cell phone though not all of them are smart phones. Previously many company spend their money to put advert on newspaper, billboards, TV commercials, etc. But now by simply putting their advertisement to our mobile phones - which according to researcher that the average people using their phones per day is 15 minutes - is enough. Those 15 minutes time’s people can see a lot of advertisement. And for me I think this system is working and there’s no problem in it.

  35. It’s not surprising to know how advertisements have grown bigger and bigger over the years. Everywhere we look there are ads, especially in our phone and laptop. Every taps and every clicks opens up an ad or even more. Sure it is a good way to get people to see the products, but there are just too many of them and people become annoyed. They don’t even look at the ads anymore and close them right away. Well, at least that’s what I always do. The ads are just annoying, especially those pop up ads that opens up several browsing windows at a time. Even now I have to watch through an ad before watching a video on YouTube.

These kinds of ads are not effective anymore. And personally, I think that the producers using these kinds of advertisements are only wasting their money because people mostly just ignore them. Producers have to come up with a new way to advertise their products, like maybe, tricking the consumers into reading or listening to an explanation about the products.

  36. Well advertising these days has been one of the most important aspects to do in business. Without advertisements, business will not be able to capture their market. It is impossible for us to go to somewhere without seeing advertisements. It is impossible for us not to see advertisements on television. And it is impossible for us to browse a website without seeing advertisements. Advertising has become one of the most vital things for any business. For example the Cola and Pepsi war in advertisement. Cola and Pepsi are having the same target in market, and they were having advertisement war. It shows how advertisement can affect their success in doing business. Now advertisements are everywhere. Even when we want to watch videos on youtube, we still have to see advertisements for about five seconds. Sometimes it is irritating but I understand how important it is for business. Some advertisements are not necessary, such as the advertisements of games or other disturbing web. In the future, I can predict that advertisement will play the biggest role for having a great success in doing business.

  37. I have a mixed opinion about the increased ubiquity of advertisements in our daily lives. On one hand, it is good for both consumers and producers, as producers get to introduce their products to the masses while consumers gain the information of new products that may be useful for them. However, on the other hand, advertisements can be too overwhelming for many consumers as they take up a lot of the public space, and now that we have put some part of our lives inside our mobile devices, advertisements seem to have invaded this personal space of ours as well.

I believe there is a fine balance that we can all strike between the two conditions. One example of that fine balance is the classified ads in the newspapers. The casual consumers who do not need any information from the ads will not be disturbed by the presence of annoying ads when they read newspapers, while those who may benefit from the ads can easily look up the classified ads section of their newspapers. The question is, how can we apply this idea to solve the problems of mobile advertisements?

  38. As Economic student in UGM, I noticed that advertising business has a big prospect. Because more and more time there are more product established, and what product need is an advertisement. Advertising concept in business will never die. Without advertisement a business can not show up their abilities and their product. That's why advertisement business is a good way in business. Nowaday there are many way and many medias in advertising the product, like what we often see in some blog site what we called ''ads'' is an advertisement. I agrre with many people who ssaid ads is disturbing what we also have to admit from ads, we can get some ideas. For example when people need something and coincidentally they see an ads related to what they want, it helps right. Advertisement is obviously useful, afterall.

  39. Advertisement plays important role in business. Advertisement is one of many aspects that help the products to be introduced to the customers and influence the selling number of the products. We can’t deny that we are surrounded by many advertisements, not only on TV or radio, but printed media such as newspaper, magazine, etc. Because of technology improvements these days, some phone applications also provide space for advertisement.
The needs of advertisement keep increasing, so the demand of creative ideas to make advertisement also keeps increasing. Advertisements can be a media for creative people to express themselves and turn it into a piece of art. Well, we can see that advertisement brings many benefits for producers, customers, also the creator of the advertisement itself. Now we can see that advertisement is presented contemporary by the artist, and it attracts the customers to buy the products. But, sometimes too many advertisements in various medias can annoy people too.

  40. Virtual world really change our lifestyle, make our lives so much easier and makes it distance-less. In the past, perhaps advertisement was merely pamphlets pasted in public places. It was less likely to be seen by the mass. If you want your ads viewed by masses, rent the billboards which are located in the center of the crowd, but it will obviously took a high cost. Formerly ads are not as creative now. Advertisements broadcasted on television in the past time was much simpler than the recent ad, affected by the role of a virtual world that is very changing and binding, moreover. Now people can advertise in anywhere easily, free and get more attention from the audience. The positive side, this obviously profitable for manufacturers or advertisers because the ads (at least) are seen by million pairs of eyes, and there are no barriers, costs and limits to advertise. From that way, they will get a bigger profit than before. But not infrequently also the presence of advertisements in the form of banners interfere (and even bother) our activity in the internet. In fact, advertising in the virtual world does not recognize the sensor. It could be the viewer of advertisement for age over 18 is an elementary school student who is browsing materials for studying or assignment. Ad even pushing into things that are not good, is not it? In addition, it is very annoying when we want to download something from the Internet and we are hampered by the presence of ads. So, in outline, ecommerce is interesting, as long as it does not bother too much the internet users.

  41. There are more and more advertising strategies right now and some of them are annoying. I don’t like it when the ads show up if I want to download something or play a game. It is true that the developers usually give an option to purchase the premium version without ads, but it's still annoying. Well, I don’t have any problem if the ads only show up in a small screen, but it will become annoying if the ads show up in a different tab. Sometimes, it is also causing a lag.
However, I agree with some people who mention the most annoying advertising strategy comes when I want to watch youtube or dailymotion. It is annoying to watch an unimportant advertisement before we could get access to video which we want to see. Sometimes, the ads also appear in the middle of the video. It is really upsetting because it disturbs your time to watch the video. I hope in the future, the developers could manage the ads so it won’t bother the user.

  42. Globalization give some impact to the way people create something and the one which is talked above is about advertisement today. Today’s advertisement or we usually called it as digital advertisement is a new dimension for advertising and promoting by adding a special picture or touch which will slower your browsing. How can it slower your browsing? When we want to open something, we have to click the x button from the advertisement to quit it out. That’s absolutely will hamper your objective for browsing.
In the other hand, today’s advertisements can’t be trusted 100%. There are some advertisement that offer so many things which is less responsibility. For example, My sister had ever bought a hoodie from an online shop, she found that store from the digital advertisement. When the hoodie were sent to my house and my sister saw it, she little bit disappointed because there was a small hole in a part of that hoodie.
You must be wise to face those kind of advertisement. Sometimes, it also contain inappropriate thing and also there’s a possibility that it’s a fraud.

  43. Advertising though the use of technology (and in particular, smartphones) is not the future. It is the world we live in today.

Ever wondered why there are so many free apps out there for your smartphones? Ever wondered how the creators of those ‘free’ apps ever get revenue? Though the free apps you’re using might be free in terms of using it, it is not free of advertisements that goes everywhere on your screen whenever you’re using them. I for one get annoyed with them popping out once in a while, most likely due to how small my screen is in viewing them.

The future of advertising in technology is in how companies get access to your online profile. By getting access to your information, they can thoroughly set up the kind of advertisements that fit your personality and tastes. It is smart, and definitely make advertisements more accurate now, but certainly cause privacy issues that are constantly debated today.

  44. Nowadays, in this globalization and modern era, everything becomes more advance, more massive, and more modern. For example, the advertising technology becomes more massive and more advance. Nowadays, many advertisements appear on the internet, in YouTube, Twitter, some device applications, some games either online or none online, and many more.
In this era, there are more people that know and understand about how to use the internet. And now internet is easier to use and easier to connect everywhere, because there is such a thing like USB Modem. For me, It is very good to utilize the advance in technology for business especially in marketing. And I think with putting the ads in the internet could make the business became better. But personally, sometimes the advertisements in the internet are a bit annoying, because sometimes they appears too much and too long. For example first, when I watch a video in YouTube we have to wait and watch the advertisement first, even it can skip after 5 seconds. Second, the advertisements in the internet sometimes appear too frequently in some games application and some online games, and it is very annoying when I play the games. But personally, the advance of the advertising technology and the idea of putting advertisements on the internet are very good, creative and innovative.

  45. The technology is getter smarter and smarter. So do the advertisers. There are several reasons why a company is advertising. But the costumer is always the core of the advertising. So as a company you have to be there where your costumer is. Nowadays, 61 per cent of the people in the US do have a smartphone.

For a company it is a logical thought to start advertising on smartphones. The only problem is, almost every big company is doing it. So you have to be creative with you advertisement to stand out of the crowd.

One time, I was shopping in the city and I noticed a real good smartphone advertisement. At the moment I walked by the ‘Hi’ mobile shop, I get a message with ‘Hi’ and a good offer from their shop. They used Bluetooth to send the message to your phone. You could also do this as any other shop; the point is to be one of the first. You have to be unique otherwise your possible consumer will never notice you.

  46. Right now in globalization era, when digital technology has been developed to make though job easier for human, such as advertisement, right now we don’t need a lot of people to spread the new products in market. Remember 10 years or 15 years ago people usually use the brochure, pamphlet, newspaper advertisement to attract customer to buy the goods but right now where millions of people are using the internet, the advertisement method also change.
According to the article it’s mentioned that Google purchased the Admob so all application which developed or made by Google will get the advertisement. I think this method is good to inform the people and market their product, but sometimes the advertisement are annoying and causes a big problem if we had a low speed internet access. Just like when you want to watch a video in YouTube, you will have to watch the advertisement first before you watch the video, or when you open an article in some blog, sometimes there will be an advertisement which covers up a whole page and you can’t see the article until you click it.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Well from marketeers side, I see this as a benefit. In this technology and globalization era, we can easily market our products by advertising it on the internet. As we know, nowadays phone or smartphone is no more an uncommon things. Everybody has it. That's why advertising on the internet is a great deal, we can advertising our product to the whole world just by one click. It can be a good business opportunity too, like Admob. But let's see from another side, smartphone users side. I myself as a smartphone user, usually will annoyed and disturbed if I see so many ads on my phone. Moreover, the ads usually make my smartphone runs slowly. It's acceptable if the ads pop when I'm not doing important thing in my smartphone, especially if the ads are useful to me. But if, for instance, I need to browse something quickly, the ads keep popping, I will be very annoyed.

  48. I hate ads in mobilephone, tablets, ipad, smartphone or any other things. It is really annoying to have them all when we open apps, games, films or etc. We all know that it’s a really convinient for advertisers to gain much profit but do they think about the effect of it ?. When we want a program or application which have no ads. We have to pay more!. Unefficient and useless. It’s really harmful and you guys might have an error or hang while using the apps with ads. Everthing is ads. As many of my friends above commented that this is global changing. It is really helpful if they offer a free trial for a month! For every ads. That will be consumer surplus besides of the silly effect still on it. Suggestion to everyone who wants or will enter the advertisement world. Dig and seek the manner of it

  49. Well, as the user of an application, I found that application that produced from an application such as ad mob that interrupt my software is annoying me. Sometimes I inadvertently touch that advertisement and suddenly the phone run my browser and bring me to the website of that advertisement. But other than that, I think that this way of advertising is quite effective. Because if a person opened a software and an advertisement showed in the screen of the software, people will inadvertently see it and at least, they will know about the product that offered by the advertisement.
Actually when I read about the title of this article, I don’t expect that the article will talks about an advertisement method such as ad mob. Since the invention of google glass, I imagine that every single logo that we see in the real life through google glass, can lead into an advertisement. Actually nowadays there are some program who can do this such as Aurasma.

  50. For business people, the advertising is very important to make their business become a great business. Because a company or business people without advertisement can not survive as their income. They can rent a space in newspaper, magazine, internet, social media, billboards, pamflet, brochure, and many more. They advertise about their product such as fashion, automotive, food, drink, and many more. And also to make the people or consumer know what about their problem, but in the advertising that should make people interest to them. But now technology become more a great and sophisticated, so people can make or put advertising in internet. Honestly, if I found advertising in internet is very disturbing for me. For example is when I wanted to download file, film, song, and many more. Then, I click a download link and randomly showing 17+ pictures which is not good and appropriate for people who have still under 17 ages. If the file done to download, sometimes it also contains with virus. I think that online advertising is not very good and effective.

    ReplyDelete
  51. In my opinion, advertising nowadays is much more effective if we use technology. It has more benefit, both in the effectiveness of the advertisement, or the effectiveness of the time. You do not need to busily hand out papers and posters to the people about your product. You can use your devices such as smart phone. All you need is just an internet connection. While if you print out some brochure or pamphlet you need to expense some money, you can do the advertisement by only share it in the social media you have. It is free.
Well, you can also post your advertisement on the internet. There are many companies that offer space to put ads on the internet. Such as AdMob, as mentioned on the article above. Of course if you want to use it, it is not free. It is not like if you share your product on your social media account, where you can only advertising it to your friends. You can advertise it to the people around the world. The using of technology such as internet is much worth it rather than any other advertising methods.

  52. I don’t think that this new technology of placing ads everywhere and every time is good for advertisers and consumers. People may react differently to unintended ads when they open some applications in their laptops or their smart phones. I normally close the ads on the applications in internet or my smart phone directly without looking at the ads. You feel disturbed with those adds when you open applications on your laptop or your smartphone and you bitch in yourself when you looked at those ads.
People can accept and look at ads when they are prepared and ready to get the information on that ads. Your mind will be prepared to respond what those ads. I think we have to consider both social and technological aspects of a new technology. The inventor should consider where and when they to flash the ads without giving disturbed feeling to the costumers.

  53. This kind of advertising method is useful and no one can deny that if you have a business, any kind of (legal) business would need to advertise their stuffs, put their product or info out there for consumers and customers to see. Without advertising, without advertisements, people would have to rely on word of mouth to know a product or know a service, although the usage word of mouth is highly effective, it would not have that much impact on a mass target audience.
This kind of method is a clever way to put up your advertisement, because so many ads popping out everywhere and people can literally see it whenever, it is so effective to let the customer know about your product and a clever place to put your ad. But then again, you have to think about how the customer feels, when they randomly click on something then a bunch of ads come up and annoy the hell out of them, they would not feel as comfortable as before to access things as they have to close the ads that they don’t want first before they can freely browse what they were intending to browse.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Like any other thing in the world, technology has once again helped advertising to evolve and grow. Back in the day we could only place advertisements on newspapers, billboards, magazines, televisions and the radio. Even though those advertising are still used, there are also lots of ads on the internet and applications on smartphones.

Well I guess ads on applications arereally effective since we have no choice but to notice it, but it could be pretty disturbing. For me personally, I hate those advertisements that pop up while I’m using an application. It usually pops up after I press a button to play or go to the menu. I usually see these ads on game applications, and now there are also some video advertisements as well, which I hate even more because I have to wait before I could close it. Though I guess as the advertiser or the company who advertises their product, it is pretty good because on a smartphone app, the advertisement would usually use up the whole screen, so us as the user cant not look at it, which is beneficial for the company but disturbing for the users.

  55. Technology is indeed the most important reason why advertising can grow like now. Especially in this globalization era, it's really more easier for people to develop their ads not only through newspaper or magazine, but also websites on the internet and TV. Marketing division in every company should've known how to make a good use of the advancement in technology for their products. As we all know, promotion is one important part of marketing. People do the promotion with advertising, and it will affect the branding itself. If they can maximize the product awareness and can manage to put the ads on the right place for people to see it, I think it will really help the sales. But it doesn't mean internet ads is not disturbing. The ones that suddenly pop up when we visit a website or watching a video on youtube annoys us most of times. But after all, we can't prevent or avoid it anymore. Technology grows really fast, and so does advertisement.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Technology is something we really need right now. And with that technology, come the internet. The internet can connect people around the world just by click. It is easy and simple. Because of the traffic in the internet. People want to advertise something there. It is a common sense. When there is some crowded place, the better our advertisement will be know by people. So that's why the advertising technology also improved.

Some people want to pay a lot of money, to put their ads in the crowded website. Some of the crowded web usually have an expensive price if you want to put your ads there. It is because their traffic is good, and the prospect for the business also really good. And we can say that everyone need money, so the web owner is allowing people to put ads to their site.a

This, will make the advertisement in the internet booming. But I think, it will not really a bother if we can control and learn about this system of ads.

  57. Thanks to technology , mobile advertisements are becoming more and more popular, not to mention annoying aswell.
Mobile advertisements are more effective in earning more consumers or buyers than ads shown on the desktop computers because people take and open their phones everywhere they go most of the time which allows them to have easier access into viewing and clicking the advertisement shown.

as important as ads are to businessman or woman and the consumer. I think that people shouldn’t be forced into watching it. For example, the ads shown on Youtube. We must watch a 30 second commercial before viewing the movie we want to watch which is inconvenient. But I must say, the marketing strategy is good.

Other than that, another problem is when we want to download something, mp3 or video that needs pop up permits, not only will the download link pop up but also unwanted ads.
he people that creates ads or the marketing department must consider these problems

    ReplyDelete
  58. Now advertisement is getting better and take a huge step forward because of technologies if in the old days we have to advertise our products through newspaper or advertisement board in the street now we can use internet to advertise our product now there are some online shop who will provide you to advertise your product such as kaskus, toko bagus, etc. But, right now, there are too many ads in the smart phone that it began to annoyed the consumer. Well, at least that’s what I felt. Whenever I want to open my application or download them, I must close many ads before I finally can get it. What happen is, when people become too annoyed with this stuff, they started to ignore it. In the future advertising should be more accurate and not too massive and repetitive or a program that only allow advertising that match our needs , hobby or interest so that people will be less annoyed even though the ads keeps poping out, at least they can found what they are interested in

  59. Good night everyone, I would like to give my comment regarding to this topic.
Advertising nowadays, is good. And it getting better day by day because the creativity of the creator is increased. Which means, more inspiration may inspire the ad makers, which is good. Unlike the old times, advertising may seems to be boring, and not interesting at all. But now, thanks to the advancement of entertainment technology and the competition of other ads makers, advertising nowadays can be extremely nice to look at. But, what are the feedbacks of more interesting advertising? Well, I guess because of it, advertising itself may cause the people to be more consumptive. It is bad. Why? Because that kind of way of life is not good for you, and your family. So I guess, the most reasonable solution, and the easiest way to do so, is that to make all people, start with yourself, to make a mindset that too much consuming is not good for you.
I guess that’s all, thank you.

  60. Advertisement, advertisement everywhere. Seriously though when you visit popular web, there will always be ads. Well it is their gold mine. How can they pay the servers to hold their data storage in the Internet and, maybe, pay the writers or admins who work almost 24/7 providing information and managing the web so it does not overwhelmed by the data that goes in and out rapidly. Commonly known ads is probably in YouTube, where it will generate some money for the uploaded videos. Most subscribed channel, PewDiePie, a channel about a person who play games for living have (now, 03/01/2014) have almost 19 million subscriber and it keeps growing. How does he generate money? From ads in his videos of course. High traffic place with generate high cash flow. Like in KasKus, the largest Indonesia community, where you have to dig big cash to advertise there. If I remember correctly it is above 10 million. Please do correct me here if I'm wrong. So probably having a web with high traffic will make you a millionaire in the future.

These days, one of the greatest inventions that are affected by globalization is on the sector of advertisement. Now businesses can easily advertise their products in any kind of medias; mobile devices, websites, web pages, and others. Because now advertising medias are so vary, commonly used, and easy to find.

The businesses get the benefits. They use the Internet networks to advertise their products by displaying short ads. One of the advantages of using Internet networks to promote the products is they can promote their products everywhere and anytime, because nowadays it is very easy to get the Internet connection. For instances; all of the smartphones, iPhones, tablets, laptops, and others provide Internet connection. So it means those things have already set for the Internet networking.

Most of the businesses now are using an Internet networking as one of their marketing strategies.

It aims to collect a lot of customers, although we sometimes get annoyed with the presence of advertising when we are reading or watching something. By the way the development of technology makes something easy. With advertising we can easily determine the development of a product. Therefore it would be natural to make something that everyone pursuing advertising to introduce the latest models of the company. This means that everyone should be thinking ahead to develop what is now popular. Otherwise it will be getting old or lost. Advertising becomes important as technology has evolved, because it will allow any person or company to introduce the company or to facilitate communication. The conclusion that in order to think more advanced then we have to think out of the future. Each person in a company should have innovated to create something new and exciting, and the innovation should be introduced through advertising because the cost will be cheaper.

  63. Nowadays, we can find advertising everywhere. We can find it on the internet, newspaper, even on the street. I think, advertising using technology is the most effective, since everyone now (almost) has internet connection everywhere, and gadget for sure. Everytime I went to twitter, youtube, and any other social media, there will be always one or more advertisements.

It may efficient, but somehow it also annoying. When I get to YouTube and about to play a video there was an advertisement showed up. It is more annoying when you cant even skip the ads. It is very irritating. But, despite of that, IT still is more effective for ads. And with the growth of the time, more IT will be use.

“Thus, wherever you go, you ’ll be seeing more and more ads everywhere—all part of the sea of ads that contribute to the branding and promotion of everything in modern life.” Lets hope that this won’t take your personal space though.

  64. As technology advances, advertisements get more and more annoying. There are even types of subliminal advertisements that are sub-consciously affecting us. I read an article about it which piqued my interest, and because of that I've tried avoiding as much ads as I can.

Which is a very tough thing to do if I'm watching a movie on Global TV, their ads go on for 6 minutes or so. That is a total waste of time, and it's not only me I've heard a lot of people talking about taking down unnecessarily long ads, it's ruining the children's' minds, I have a friend whose younger brother memorizes TV commercials.

It just seems wrong, with an advance in technology ads become more and more frequent, it's as if they treat humans as just an industry of consumers that will buy anything they manufacture. That's why I hope in they future, they develop a more subtle approach in introducing ads.

Advertisement is an important aspect in marketing, because it helps us to spread the products all over the world. Mostly we know that advertisement is on TV commercial, newspaper, magazine, etc. But lately, with the improvement of technology, we always see the advertisement in many website. Sometimes it’s a little bit disturbing for me because it distracts our attention from the webpage itself. Even when we want to watch videos on youtube, we still have to see advertisements for about five seconds. But we have for example tokobagus.com, that website provides service to advertise whatever you want to advertise. And those website are also do not require any cash to pay. But they’re really a trustworthy for online shopping.
